VERMICULITE: MINERAL AND EXFOLIATION PROCESS<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Vermiculite<\/strong> is a natural mineral from the group of micas. Formed mainly by silicates of iron and magnesium, its manufacture goes through the extraction of raw material in mines. The extraction<\/strong> is done in open-pit mines<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The extracted vermiculite is processed by separating rocks and other impurities. In this way only the mineral<\/strong> remains, which is classified according to sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently a heat treatment, known as exfoliation, is performed to expand the mineral. Vermiculite has a great capacity to exfoliate when heated<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

When heated<\/strong>, vermiculite expands (exfoliates) to up to 12 times <\/strong>its original volume. The exfoliation process converts the dense flakes of ore into lightweight porous granules containing<\/strong> innumerable air layers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exfoliated vermiculite is light and clean<\/strong>, has a high thermal and acoustic insulation<\/strong> value, is incombustible<\/strong> and insoluble<\/strong> in water and has the ability to absorb liquids<\/strong>. That makes it as a natural insulation for the industry and the agriculture. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Vermiculite is the geological name given to a group of laminar hydrated minerals, formed by aluminum and iron-magnesium silicates. <\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
